On quiet footpaths and trails, Coastal Walkers leads you along the winding Sausalito waterfront, with views of Angel Island, the Tiburon Peninsula, Alcatraz Island, the East Bay, and the San Francisco skyline. Our route drops down to Fort Baker, a former military base on Horseshoe Cove at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. From the water's edge we enjoy a unique and commanding view of the Bridge's North Tower. We wind beneath the bridge up a car-free road and follow a short trail to a spectacular overlook high above the bridge deck. On clear days you'll have wide vistas of the City, San Francisco Bay, the Marin Headlands, and you may even get a glimpse of the Farallon Islands, some 30 miles distant on the horizon. On foggy days, the span is shrouded in moody ocean mists. You can choose to walk on-your-own across the Golden Gate Bridge (1.7 miles/ 8 km) back to San Francisco (an epic experience that should be on every traveler's bucket list) or loop back with us and conclude our walk at the Sausalito Ferry Terminal, where you can either quickly return on the ferry back to San Francisco, or explore Sausalito and catch a later ferry back to the City.
